The study looked for the answer to the question of whether the presence or absence of Carhart notch in the presurgical tonal audiogram affects the final outcome of the otosclerosis surgery. Results: The analysis included 140 patients operated on for the first time due to otosclerosis between 2010 and 2016.

Om det finns misstanke om otoskleros remitteras man till en öron-näsa-hals specialist som kan genomföra ytterligare undersökningar för att fastställa diagnosen. On an audiogram, patients with otosclerosis commonly have conductive hearing loss with a drop in the bone-conduction threshold at 2,000 Hz, called a Carhart notch. This finding, in addition to an absent acoustic reflex, is generally thought to be diagnostic of otosclerosis. Following are some methods to diagnose Otosclerosis: 1.

Om det finns misstanke om otoskleros remitteras man till en öron-näsa-hals specialist som kan genomföra ytterligare undersökningar för att fastställa diagnosen. Otosclerosis results in an audiogram with significant loss at all frequencies, often of around 40 dB(HL).

Otosclerosis is a common condition affecting the bone of the otic capsule in 7.3% of Caucasian males and 10.3% of Caucasian females. The condition is rare in non-Caucasians, except East Indians, in whom the incidence is approximately the same as pers 1226 AudiologyOnline Article Otosclerosis, also known as otospongiosis, is a primary osteodystrophy of the otic capsule (bony labyrinth of the inner ear).

Otosclerosis usually results in slow, progressive conductive hearing loss. When the stapes is unable to vibrate, hearing becomes impaired. Many cases of otosclerosis are thought to be inherited.

A deficiency particularly around 2 kHz (termed a Carhart notch in the audiogram) is characteristic of either otosclerosis or a congenital ossicular anomaly. An audiometric finding characteristic of otosclerosis is an increase in bone conduction threshold with a peak at 2,000 Hz known as Carhart's notch (Carhart, 1950). Although the notch occurs at 2,000 Hz, a reduction in bone conduction sensitivity is seen from 500 to 4,000 Hz which is, on average, 5 dB at 500 Hz, 10 dB at 1000 Hz, 15 dB at 2000 Hz, and 5 dB at 4,000 Hz (Carhart, 1971). Otosclerosis is a condition of the inner ear where one or more foci of irregularly laid spongy bone replace part of normally dense enchondral layer of bony otic capsule in the bony labyrinth. This condition affects one of the ossicles (the stapes ) resulting in hearing loss , tinnitus , vertigo or a combination of symptoms. Otosclerosis ENT 1. 1 OTOSCLEROSIS Salar Alam M10011 2.
